Journals
Journals are an integral part of this class and for that
reason a significant grade. Entries will contain one-page responses to prompts, and other activities. Good journal work usually leads to good grades. Journals are kept in the classroom, however, they may go home at any time. No soft cover, spiral bound, or ones with perforated pages will be accepted. Journals may be done in pen or pencil. Absences do not excuse you from journal entries; it is your responsibility to make up any missed journal assignments. Unless otherwise directed, you may make up missed entries with free writes.

Students will complete several book projects throughout the school year. Some will be based on novels read as a class, while others will be
student-selected. Novels selected should be approved by the teacher and grade-level appropriate.
Students may not choose a book that has been made into a movie or a book that was made from a movie. Sample projects will be
shown in class.
